I have read a few comments that the App crashes after the update.

Remember, the Installation instructions tell you to delete the App from your device before syncing with iTunes. In this way the upgrade to the new database is achieved.

Version 2.1 of RC-Timer will contain the following:

End the flight-time if the maximum time has reached
Find a way to scroll and start/stop the time in the whole screen area, maybe scroll with two fingers and start/stop with one finger Check! I have found a way.
Display time in minutes/seconds instead of only seconds. Probably changeable via a switch Check! it works
F3K task 3 out of 6 accepts more flights than 6 flights and counts the best time too. Wrong! Check! more flights are accepted but only the best flights of the first 6 will be validated
Find a way to be able to scroll while flying Check! it works
Add a switch to be able to enable the countdown timer voice for the target time or the working time Check!
Calculation of the Total Time in a round contains errors. In F3K times must be added using whole seconds, in other disciplines tenths of a second are used Check! solved.
In training mode, increase the worktime-window. E.g. from one minute to 20 or so Check! it works
sometimes, the voice calling the remaining worktime doesn't work. Mostly clearing the database does solve this issue. I think it's a memory problem but I have to dive deeper into that.

Recently I finally found time to work on a new version of the RC-Tmer pro application.

What has been changed/added

Better looks
Create new round ('+' button). This will create a new round, with a task (for F3K, F3K Mini, F3J, F3B and 'Traning Mode')
Support for F3K, F3J, F3B (limited), Free (training mode) disciplines. This implies that e.g. for task 'A' (last round, F3K) all rounds except the last are invalidated.
Target flight times are also calculated according to the task and the already flown times
A 'swipe left' on the right side of the screen 'invalidates' a flight, again a swipe will re-validate the flight
End of worktime automatically stops the flight-time
30 seconds past the end of the worktime, and still flying invalidates the time (incorrect flight)
Tapping on the (i) button in the top bar shows the FAI rules for this specific task, with possibility to scroll to other tasks
Tapping on the settings button in the bottom bar shows the settings page.

Tip

In between tasks it is difficult not to touch the screen and start a (not existing) flight. Just lock the iPhone using the button on top. The App stays active and the screen dims. Also during a flight, locking will not stop the App!

Installation Instructions

The database of this application has been changed. It is therefore necessary to delete the application from your iPhone/iPod before synching withe iTunes. In this way a new database will be created that will be able to store rounds and tasks.

Today I found that Vitaly Ryumshyn www.f3k.biz has built applications for RC-Aeromodelling for the Android platform.
There are versions for F3K, F3J and F3B contests (or training). So, when you don't have an iPhone go to Vitaly's site.

RC-Timer Lite v 1.1 submitted to the AppStore

Last week I submitted version 1.1 of my App RC-Timer Lite to the Appstore.

What has been changed:

The message, stating that the iPhone should be in 'Airplane Mode' was not all that clear. I changed it to an Alert with a warning message.
A setting has been added that automatically starts the working time with the start of the first flight. That is convenient at the "All Up Last Down" and "5 * 2 min" tasks.
A link to the Pro version has been added, hey I want to make money too!

RC-Timer Pro submitted to the App Store

Today I submitted RC-Timer Pro to the AppStore.

I switched to another sound framework to reduce the latency while playing audio files. I noticed that tapping on the screen did not immideately result in the start-sound. That has ben improved somehow.

Furter I added database access to store all the recorded flights and the 'Talking Timer' functionality. Furtermode the looks have ben improved quite a bit. Finally I added a "auto start worktime" setting. This setting will be included in the free version too.

Next to do:

add specific F3K, F3J and F3B functionality

iPod Touch Support

After release of the application, I received complaints that the app didn't work on the iPod Touch. A glider pilot on the RC Groups forum did some research and found the solution.

Here's what you should do:

Turn off WiFi
Upgrade to the last version of firmware (select 'check for upgrade' in iTunes)

That should do the trick!

I am thinking about the Pro (paid) version of the RC timer application. What would I like to add:

A talking countdown timer. At five minutes, one minute etc. a voice tells you how much worktime is left
All the recorded times are stored in a database, per round
In OS 3.1 it is possible to use the volume controls for other functions. Using them as a start-stop timer would be very nice.
Better looks by creating a UITableCell object for every row and adding animations.

RC Timer Manual

The RC Timer application is intended for use in modelling glider contests (or training).

Usage

At modeling glider contest, a number of rounds are flown. A round has a worktime of a certain amount of minutes, mostly 15 within F3J and 10 at F3K contests.

Worktime

The worktime is default set to 10 minutes. This can be changed by tapping the down-right info button and changind the slider according to your desired worktime. The worktime can be started and stopped with the butons in the navigation bar. After tapping the 'Start worktime' button, the prograss bar at the bottom decreases and a count-down display is updated every second. At one minute, 30 seconds, 20 seconds, 10 seconds, 9, 8 ... 3, 2, 1 a sound is given to indicate the end of the worktime.

Flight times

Within that worktime, a pilot has to fly a number of times. The times of the individual flights can be recorded by tapping anywhere in the sreen. The first tap will record the start of flight one, the second tap will record the landing and stop the time. The third tap will record the start of flight two, and so on.

The right side of the screen acts as a scrollbar. In this way you are able to scroll throught the already recorded flights.

Airplane Mode

This application only works when the iPhone is in 'Airplane Mode'. It is not allowed to use a mobile phone on the airfield during a contest. Using airplane mode the iPhone is converted into a hand-held personal computer instead of a mobile phone, no change of interference with transmitters and receivers.
