Now, who was the stupid fuck at the London committee who wasn't aware of the fact that Keith Moon has been dead for 34 years? From The Guardian:

The London 2012 opening ceremony is going to be called Isles of Wonder, but there can be no wonderment more wonderful than the fact that Olympics organizers wanted Keith Moon to perform.

Moon has been dead for 34 years.

The drummer for the Who died in 1978 after ingesting 32 tablets of clomethiazole, a sedative he had taken for alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

The band's manager, Bill Curbishley, told the Sunday Times he had been approached to see if Moon "would be available" to play with the surviving members this summer.

"I emailed back saying Keith now resides in Golders Green crematorium, having lived up to the Who's anthemic line 'I hope I die before I get old'," came the excellent reply.

The Velvet Underground have sued the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts to stop using the iconic banana for commercial purposes such as iPad covers and such. From Pitchfork:

The Velvet Underground today sued the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, as the New York Post reports. Lou Reed and John Cale have accused the organization of illegally using Warhol's banana image from the cover of their album The Velvet Underground & Nico on iPad accessories, like cases and protective sleeves.

The suit filed in Manhattan federal court accuses the foundation, which was founded after Warhol's death in 1987, of trying to "deceive the public" into thinking the Velvet Underground offered "sponsorship or approval" of the products. The band is seeking unspecified damages.

Members of the public, and particularly those who listen to rock music, immediately recognize the banana design as the symbol of the Velvet Underground," the filing states, according to the Post. "It is not merely the graphic reproduction by Andy Warhol of a piece of fruit: it is the 'iconic' VU banana." As the Post points out, Warhol never copyrighted the design. The banana image itself was taken from an advertisement.

Peter Gabriel, George Clooney, Alicia Keys, Richard Branson and Kofi Annan support hip-hop star Emmanuel Jal, a former child csoldier who manged to get out, in raising awareness for the Sudanese Referendum on 9th January 2011. On this day the citizens of Southern Sudan and Abyei, as promised by the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, will participate in referenda that will determine the fate of Sudan. Peter Gabriel:

I have been horrified at the reports of the potential for civil war in the Sudan after the election. Emmanuel Jal is an inspiring and charismatic young musician and, considering most of the fighting in these wars is actually carried out by young people, I believe Emmanuel's impassioned campaign for peace will be much more likely to reach them.

The folks of Royal Mail knows about art, but they know shit about music. They picked The Division Bell as the Pink Floyd album to be featured on stamp. Oh, and how about A Rush Of Blood To The Head? Is their a doctor in the house? Serious case of brain damage.
