If you think the setlist is good, you should have seen the show! Behind all the glam and the velvet underground/max's kansas city/andy warhol thing there is a really good, workmanlike musician who has a very tight band, including an amazing drummer and who just walks on and plays real well.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaah, what a setlist!!! Thank you so much for posting it! It really looks like a great show! Unfortunately nothing from the last albums, but so many coooooool songs...all of them are just great!
I saw him in November in Cardiff. And yes, his band is great! The four of them are just perfect together. After years he seems really lucky with those guys.

Let's hope for a new album and more concerts!

Uf, that´s really incredible setlist, Mercenaries, Captain Hook, Dying On The Vine, Beirut...no words for it. Hoping these songs will stay on for others days...

A fantastic concert - it was a real privilege to be in attendance. John and the band worked hard and played really well, John in fine voice and obviously enjoying working with a group of fabulous musicians (special mention - the drummer! His name?). The set list was terrific with many highlights - "Helen of Troy" really rocked and "Femme Fatale" was gorgeous. John and this ensemble really need to record together.

I would have loved to see that setlist played live.

Seems like Cale put on quite the show.

Powerful show in the spirit of 'Sabotage'. Suggested up front by opening with Capt. Hook. I recognised it straight away but couldn't believe it. Mercenaries was also back to the Sabotage style. Other notable version points being Gun and Amsterdam. The former was aggressive and guitar driven in a way like the original album but still quite different. It segued naturally into Pablo which gives an indication of the style (Pablo was as on Circus). Amsterdam was also unique-not acoustic guitar but keyboard driven with a beautiful full band arrangement. The acoustic guitar was not touched all night as wasn't the post 1985 catalogue. Child's Christmas had to be restarted after things went haywire. Brilliant show. I am looking forward to the next 6 events in Hobart.

I really hoped someone taped the show.

Cale is the best; I love how he went from performing Paris 1919 with an orchestra to doing a straight up sabotage-era rock show for the next concert.

i have heard negative comments about this show too...bad sound (people leaving early in the show), Cale looking ill and apologising for the performance (being quoted as saying "I owe you one Sydney" near the end of the gig)

Some of the Sydney show was posted on Youtube. Waiting for the Man was brilliant. How many people showed up? Can Cale draw a good size crowd in Australia?

I don't know how many but the place was full. The audience also seemed to include far more younger people than in 2007 so something must be happening (same for Tasmania). John was in fine form so I don't know where the reports about him looking ill come from. His voice was very strong and he didn't hold back in a powerhouse show. The "I owe you one comment" was a thanks for the rapturous response he got. At the end he didn't do an encore but people waited and called for ages (until security moved them along). So very much appreciated even though the no encore was not appreciated by some.

I thought Jack Ladder stole the show.
John Cale was good...a little to 'Pink Floyd' for my taste.
