Dead Confederate posing for the Eiffel Tower 2009/11/22
Dead Confederate posing for the Eiffel Tower in Paris - 2009/11/22

Athens alt.rockers Dead Confederate have released a live EP recorded in Atlanta, GA at the Earl on May 27, 2009. The 8 minute plus Tortured Artist Saint is a uncompromising portrait of musicians for a just a bit too full of themselves.

The band focuses on stuff that hasn't been released before, with only a few live versions of the songs from their breakthrough album Wrecking Ball. A further point of interest are the covers songs that are included. Their take of the Officer May track Smoke A Mirror is quite fetching, while the Elliot Smith tune is just about adequate.

Dead Confederate:
Hardy Morris: vocals, guitar
Brantley Senn: bass
Walker Howle: guitar
John Watkins: keyboards
Jason Scarboro: drums

The band have been playing well received shows In Ireland and England, while they are working on their debut ep Felix Squirrel due for release in early 2010.

Song for Goodbyes is carefully arranged track, with a repetitive acoustic guitar motive serving as the undertow for the dreamy lead vocals. 24 Hour Paramedics is driven by a toe-tapping back beat belying the serious subject matter.

Elspeth:
Gerard: vocals, guitar
Leo: guitar
Jonny: guitar
Davy: bass
Phil: drums
