Brakes

All that the Brakes from Brighton need is an appreciative audience capable of handling a full frontal attack of fast garage rock, with a few country songs thrown in as a breather (including the Johnny Cash classic Jackson). Rock Is Dodelijk (Dutch for Rock Kills) catches them in the act during shows at Concorde 2, Brighton, August 2008, and Luxor, Cologne, Germany, May 2009.

It's collection of songs that should be taken in standing up, jumpinng up and down with fists pumping in the air. This is what the Pixies sounded like ca 1988. They have a wry sense of humour (Heard About Your Band), create and exclamation mark set to music (Comma Comma Comma Full Stop) and the love sick anthem Why Tell The Truth (When It’s Easier To Lie)? is a song that the Arctic Monkeys would love to have written.

The Brakes proof that is a such thing as Britrock. And that, after all the "I am so fucking special, but the whole word hates me" crap of Oasis and such is good news indeed.
