Bebel Gilberto is a descendant of a long line of famous Brazilian musicians. Blessed with a voice that goes down your ears like a perfectly mixed cocktail she successfully sidesteps the pitfalls of mainstream lounge jazz. All In One was recorded in New York, Jamaica amnd Bahia.
Most of the songs are in Portuguese, her mother tongue, and it's obvious she feels more at ease then, surfing up down and the scales with ease. . The album is a mixed bag of self-penned songs and covers. Her onw songs are not bad, especially the title track, but the covers have stronger arrangements. Producer Mark Ronson lend a hand for the production of the Stevie Wonder song The Real Thing. He added a bit of his signature rhythm-and-blues tinged 60s pop gloss to the track.
Traditional bossa nova is her forte. Bim Bom, a track by her father João Gilberto, will put a smile on the face of even the grumpiest of music lovers. She is on tour in the USA.
All In One is released on Verve Records.
