Den Haan
photo: Calum McKenzie

Matthew Aldworth and Andrew Gardiner are Den Haan, a duo from Glasgow. Their third 12 inch is called Heist, but it is the b-side that will turn the heads of gothic dance rock lovers, who are still waiting for new stuff by the Sisters of Mercy. Russian Boat Commander is a musical ice berg ripping apart the ears and expectations of the listener. The duo describes themselves as a macho-disco act and that's pretty accurate for such a massive sounding single.

Heist b/w Russian Boat Commander is released on their own label The Courier of Death. Release date: late November.

Phish: Festival 8

Phish gives The Bunny another outing during Festival 8. From the Live Music Blog:

Phish has set up a radio station for Festival 8 to broadcast the band’s sets and Kevin Shapiro’s “From the Archives” series, among other programming. This time, however, The Bunny also gets a website, a Facebook page, and a Twitter stream.

For those who are not there: Sirius will stream all eight sets of Festival8. Sirius offers a free seven-day trial membership.

A first is the selling of FLAC-HD recordings of the shows:

For those of you who want to get higher, pre-order FLAC-HD downloads of each show. FLAC-HD offers more than three times the fidelity of a standard audio CD (24 bit/ 96KHz) and will play back in your favorite FLAC player on your computer. You may also burn FLAC-HD files to DVD-Audio discs or DVD-Rs for playback in most DVD and Blu-Ray players.
