Guitar ace Richard Thompson often tells jokes on stage. Here's one, taking the piss out of bass players:

A boy is begging his father to let him get a bass and learn to play. After hearing his son go on and on, the father relents and says "You have to take lessons".

The son goes off to his first lesson. When he gets home, he's excited and tells his Dad - I learned to play the E string, the fat one on the bottom. Like this E E E E E E.

After his second lesson, he tells his Dad - I learned how to play the A string - the less fat one second from the bottom - like this A A A A A.

The Father says, "You must be excited about your next lesson".

The son says "No more lessons - I got a gig".

To infinity and beyond? The Galacticos are a young quartet from Hasselt, Belgium, who can't resist word play - naming their debut EP Phone Home. There is Pixies guitar (I'm With My Girl), a bit of the Apples in stereo (He Said, She Said) and the Presidents of The United States of America (Battlestar Galactico). Cheerful 21st century pop with tons of references to cult sci-fi series. They are ready for take-off.
