Beautiful Small Machines
photo: Christopher Porzio

New York electro duo Beautiful Small Machines know their Philip K. Dick, one of science fictions darkest writers. Their new single Simple Joys is inspired by his classic book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, the novel that inspired the Blade Runner movie. Bree Sharp has the innocent voice and Don DiLego has the sounds. The pain and uncertainties of a world full of replicants while the protagonists are looking for simple joys is caught in a pastoral electronic angst, with Simon Le Bon (Duran Duran) lending a hand with the vocals.

Simple Joys is part of a digital EP. The track is available in three different mixes, with So Long 2 U serving as a virtual b-side. Buy Simple Joy from iTunes. A fourth mix of Simple Joy is available for free..

Simple Minds + OMD

The Simple Minds and OMD will pay trinbute to pioneering synth band Kraftwerk with a joined performance of Neon Lights on the forthcoming UK tour.

Both bands were heavily influenced by the German band. OMD was recently featured in BBC 4 television documentary Synth Britannia that chronicled the rise of electronic and industrial pop music in the mid 70s and early 80s. The Simple Minds early albums Empires and Dance and especially Reel To Reel Cacophony took the industrial electronic Krautrock to another, more accessible level.

UK tour dates:
  • 11/30 Newcastle, Arena
  • 12/02 Birmingham, LG Arena
  • 12/03 Manchester, MEN Arena
  • 12/05 Sheffield, Arena
  • 12/06 Cardiff, CIA
  • 12/07 London, Wembley Arena
  • 12/11 Glasgow, SECC
  • 12/12 Aberdeen, Exhibition & Conference Centre
