Danish retro pop dance band The Asteroids Galaxy Tour got lucky. Really lucky. Steve Jobs handpicked their song Around The Bend for his Apple iPod touch campaign. Their music can be best described as borderline novelty pop, channeling the B52's, with singer Mette Lindberg oozing 60s innocence over a danceable backing that won't offend anyone much. Lars Iversen is the musical brain of the band, collecting pop records ike its going out style.
After an EP to cash in of the Jobs job, the full length Fruit has more bite, with the notable exception of the new single The Golden Age, a piece of sugary fluff that leaves a bad aftertaste. Skip it, and listen Crazy (nice brass), Push The Envelope (orchestrated and over the top, but in a good way) and of course The Sun Ain’t Shining No More (sixties girlie retro soaked in a pseudo James Bond theme song).
Fruit is released on Small Giants. Release date: October 13.
