Pet Lions are a young quartet from Chicago who are peddling their debut EP Soft Right. They sound a bit like Weezer without the bite. Soft Right is a pretty basic indie guitar rock, with a rather cheesy keyboard bubbling under the clean cut vocals of Karl Østby in most of the tracks- innocent good time music with reflective lyrics. The Lions still need to find their own voice. Growling a bit while recording would help.

Pet Lions:
Karl Østby: guitar, vocals
Shuhei Yamamoto: bass, vocals
Tom Owens: guitar, synth
Matt Dahl: drums

Sounds more British than Weezer to me. Like a poppier Arctic Monkeys mixed with The Strokes or something. I really like it. Didn't hear any keys on this track. I'm assuming it's on the rest of the album?

At points they remind me of the Smiths, Strokes, Arctic Monkeys but never Weezer. It was really fun working with the Pet Lions. We recorded drums, bass and guitars to analog tape, and cut vocals in ProTools. I mixed analog using some fun analog vintage effects to create unique and memorable tones.
