Touring without your former singer is tricky, but The Blockheads will do it anyway. The former band of Ian Dury, who passed away in 2000, releases a new album called Staring Down The Barrel April 6. The cover art was created by Sir Peter Blake (formerly Ian Dury's art tutor). Chaz Jankel wrote all the music, new singer Derek Hussey took care of the words.

Blockheads: Staring Down The Barrel

Four real Blockheads are in this line-up: Chaz Jankel (piano, guitar), Mick Gallagher (keyboards), Norman Watt-Roy (bass) and John Turnbull (guitar). The new kids on the block are Dylan Howe (drums) and Gilad Atzmon (sax).

A biopic about Ian Dury entitled Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, will star Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings) in the title role. Produced by Damian Jones (Kidulthood, Adulthood), the film will be released in 2010. Jankel has been appointed as musical supervisor, while The Blockheads have already recorded tracks for the film soundtrack.

Blue Turtle Seduction

With a name like Blue Turtle Seduction changes are that you are listening to a genre mashing jam band. And they are. What makes them special are the Eastern European influences that this Lake Tahoe, CA, band mixes with hints of reggae. Their new full length 13 Floors showcases their live prowess in a studio environment. Most of the tracks have been road tested, but they have refrained from cleaning them up and went for the vibe underlining the rough and ready vocals of the front line trio.

Stand out tracks are Foot by Foot with a gypsy fiddle played over back beat culled from The Police, the jump blues Rome and lead off track What's My Name, kicking off with the sound of an elevator going up. Get in and enjoy the ride.

Blue Turtle Seduction:
Adam Navone: drums
Christian Zupancic: fiddle, mandolin, vocals
Glenn Stewart: harmonica, vocals
Jay Seals: guitar, vocals
Stephen Seals: bass
