Indie quartet Carlon has a lead singer who may remind you of that guy who used to handle the vocals for The Hollies. Their album Johari Window sounds European and that's a compliment. Recorded in the 20,000 square foot warehouse rehearsal space (it's OK to be jealous) in Fairfield, New Jersey, the twelve songs have room to breathe and build.

The band were democratic about the recodring proces, listening intently to each other's ideas and the result is a mixed bag of material that ranges form country to rock to pop, often within the space of a single track. A Johari window is a "cognitive psychological tool created by Joseph Luft and Harry Ingham in 1955 in the United States, used to help people better understand their interpersonal communication and relationships." The sound and the atmosphere on the album keep it altogether. The result of this musical group therapy as it were, is a surprisingly lighthearted and optimistic album.

Michael McWilliams: rhythm guitar, vocals
R. Ryan McGlynn: lead guitar, vocals
Milo Venter: drums, vocals
Jared Pollack: bass

Waldo Wittenmyer & The Wall of Sound is punkie folk band form Austin, TX. Fronted by hoarse voiced John Wittenmyer they sound like the illegitimate children of The Clash.

With tons of attitude and bravado they are a typical American band. They may overreach themselves in their songwriting, but are back on their feet without missing a beat if they fuck up in mid-song. All they need is chalk up more rehearsal time. After that they can blow off the roof a your favorite beer serving hangout (the kind that hosts live music).

Waldo Wittenmyer & The Wall of Sound:
John Wittenmyer: lead vocals, guitar
Marcus Lewton: drums
Rob Rashilla: bass
Galen Kralik: guitar
Kallie Foltz: herself
Hayden Lawson: herself

Live dates:
  • 01/10 Reach Music Festival Houston, TX
  • 01/24 Carousel Lounge (w/ Ethan Kennedy and Know More Robots) Austin, TX
