Home Sweet Home

New York alternate electronics wiz Polarity 1 has updated the lyrics of Home Sweet Home. Composed in 1823 by Sir Henry Bishop and Howard Payne, the song is turned into a lament for the thousands facing foreclosure in America.

MP3: Polarity 1 - Home Sweet Home

Makes you think when watch CSNY perform Our House in 2002, or Madness performing their totally different song in 1982.

Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles in 1965

Can you say bad things about legendary Detroit label Motown? Erhm, you can, but it will require some soul searching. Founded in 1959 by Berry Gordy it might be not as cool as Stax, but with a roster that includes Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Stevie Wonder, The Jackson 5, the Supremes, the Temptations, the Four Tops and the giant Marvin Gaye this label churned out hits by the dozens form the mid-sixties until the early seventies before slowly going into decline with forgettable thrown together duets and the solo crap made by Lionel Richie.

Motown 50

With its 50th anniversary coming up on January 12, current owner Universal releases a 3CD collection that is pretty good, but since the internet community had a vote in putting it together there are eleven (11!) Diana Ross tracks, and only one by The Isley Brothers. Frank Wilson, the man who gave Berry Gordy a shot as a songwriter, gets only one too. The big names are all there, with just a few of the lesser known acts as The Contours and The Elgins sneaking in through the cracks. The included booklet is a joke. No history, no background, no nothing.

Start with the second disc and let it play for the first seven songs. That's the Motown sound at its peak.

Motown 50 Yesterday.Today.Forever is released on Universal.

Living Colour
Living Colour 2008: Corey Glover, Will Calhoun, Vernon Reid, Doug Wimbish

Have a camera and a chair? Take a photo in living colour and it might end up on the cover of CD:

Living Colour is compiling new material for their new album entitled "The Chair in the Doorway". The band would like fans, non-fans, and photographers to participate in this process by sumbitting original images conveying their interpretation of "The Chair in the Doorway".

The image could become artwork for the next Living Colour album!

Vernon: "I did a press junket for CollideØscope with Corey and whenever something was going wrong Corey would always say "the chairin the doorway". It was just one of these things he would say and I looked at him and said 'you know that thing you always say, that's going to be the title of our next album.' I don't know what that means but that's it. What I like about "The Chair In The Doorway" is that it is a concrete image and a very real thing but……Why is there a chair in the doorway? What does it mean? It's completely abstract, while being a contract, a physical manifestation of what it is."

Neil Young

The Archives? The Neil Young Archives? A release date? Yet another release date?

After more than 20 years, the first volume of Young's career-spanning box set is finally coming out. The 10-disc set (available in Blu-ray for $432 or DVD for $345, and eventually in CD and download formats) is built around an interactive timeline that allows users to access hundreds of hours of audio and video, ranging from Young's high school band through 1972's Harvest. "There's photos, there's original lyrics, there's all the materials that make up a career," says Larry Johnson, the set's producer. So when is Vol. 2 due? "Now that we've done the format," says Young, "it'll be quicker."
