Zingale: The Bright Side

Zingale has gained a cult status for being the only decent progressive rock band from Israel in the seventies. Their only album Peace is a collector's item now. Ephraim Barak en Udi Tamir, two of its former members, have teamed with a new drummer, Barak Ben Zour. This trio has been busy writing and recording the new album The Bright Side, a collection of songs that are continuation of their earlier material.

It took more than a year and the band used five different studios. Still, they achieved to make a coherent sounding album. The Bright Side is far better than the average mid-life crisis reunion albums that have been released recently.

They still go for the big gesture, but they get more personal too. The title track is dedicated to the late David Hofesh, who "allowed himself to search in places that he shouldn't have". And yes, they hope to meet him again on "the bright side of the moon".

Zingale have gone digital, selling The Bright Side is as a download through CD Baby.

Phish At The Roxy

No exactly breaking news, but it's official right now. The new Phish mammoth archival release At The Roxy (8-CD box set) is available for pre-order:

We're pleased to announce Phish At The Roxy, a brand new 8-CD box set, showcasing three complete shows - fully mastered soundboard recordings, with six sets of music, featuring seventy-eight unique songs with three special guests - in stores November 18th, and available for pre-order now at Phish Dry Goods.

Recorded Live February 19th, 20th and 21st, 1993, this run at the intimate Roxy Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia set the stage for many classic tripartite celebrations to follow. With the second show's near-instant legendary status cemented among fans due largely to a non-stop second set, At The Roxy captures a magical moment for Phish and their audience during a period of peak songwriting and experimentation.

The 8-CD box set is the first complete multiple-show release since Hampton Comes Alive and the 1998 Island Tour.

Anyone who pre-orders the box set from Dry Goods will receive a bonus CD featuring just under 80-minutes of previously unreleased music from Phish's 3/28/92 Variety Playhouse performance in Atlanta, GA. An accidental indoor flood forced the band to cut the show short and forego a normal second set.

Long considered a prequel to the landmark Roxy Theatre shows in 1993, this abbreviated show (a remastered audience recording, as no soundboard recording exists) is the perfect companion to the 8-CD box set. If you've already pre-ordered from Dry Goods, the bonus CD will automatically be added to your order.

In addition, you can pre-order (available for download on November 18th) MP3 and FLAC versions of At The Roxy at LivePhish.com. MP3/CD Bundle options are available.

Ingrid Michaelson: Be OK

Ingrid Michaelson is a product of the MySpace revolution, contributing songs to mainstream sitcoms that you can watch without using your brains. Her forthcoming second full length Be OK is a "cash-in while she's hot" affair - albeit for a good cause, the proceeds going to Stand Up To Cancer. The album suffers from a few less memorable live cuts and a cover or two - Somewhere Over The Rainbow has been played to death, she should have been warned - but thankfully her own stuff is good enough to warrant at least a partial download from your favorite virtual shoppe.

All Ingrid Michaelson needs is a bit more time to compose her own stuff and some knowledgeable punters to show her back roads of the Great American Songbook for her cover songs.

Be OK is released in the USA on CD via Original Signal. Release date: October 14th. Worldwide digital downloads available on the same date.

Tracks:
  1. Be OK
  2. Giving Up
  3. Over The Rainbow
  4. The Chain (Live from Webster Hall)
