Oppenheimer
photo: Sam Lare

Oppenheimer, a duo from Belfast, cross the big pond to convince the people in the USA that leftfield dance music is alive and well in Northern Ireland. Rocky O'Reilly (guitar, keys, percussion, mac) Shaun Robinson (vocals, drums, keys, guitars) sound like the soundtrack of an underground movie that you can't remember the name of. Their new album is called Take the Whole Midrange and Boost It, which is an adequate description indeed.

Hector Zazou

Hector Zazou has left the planet:

French composer Hector Zazou died yesterday (September 8), aged 60.
Zazou, who fell seriously ill earlier this year, was a producer and collaborator who fused classical influences with electronic music.
He worked with the likes of Bjork, Siouxsie Sioux and Japan's David Sylvian during his thirty-two-year career.
His most recently completed album, 'In The House Of Mirrors', is due for release imminently.
A spokesperson from his label Crammed, said: "He will be hugely missed."

And of course he worked with John Cale who did the vocals First Evening on the Sahara Blue album( 1994) and The Long Voyage - a duet with Suzanne Vega on the album Songs From the Cold Seas (1995).

The Youngers

Pennsylvania-based country rock band The Youngers don't sound young at all. No wonder that their named their sophomore album Heritage. They follow the traditional arrangements and sing about love affairs that end up in misery and driving along lonesome roads. They have mastered their instruments creating a warm down home sound, the kind of album you will be listening to on the porch with your friends, watching the sun go down.

The bulk of the material on Heritage was composed by band leader Todd Bartolo, with the exception of The Ride and Our Little Secret by bass player Randy Krater (whose vocals sounds a lot like Brett Sparks of the Handsome Family).

The Youngers:
Todd Bartolo: vocals, guitar, lap steel, mandolin
Randy Krater: vocals, bass
Dax Bryan: guitars
Justin Schaefer: drums, percussion
