SubRosa from Salt Lake City are four ladies who like to dabble in magic and darkwave. Their new album Strega has the slow bass heavy rumble of Black Sabbath and the Sisters of Mercy.

All the instruments are trying to come up for air in a mix that sounds like it was taped in an overcrowded cauldron. You have to strain your ears to make out what is going on. Yes, that's an electric violin, and could that be an upright bass? Darth Vader fan club card carrying members will love this. File under: gothic witch rock.

Two accomplished musicians playing outside. The Benevento/Russo Duo comes to The Yard in Brooklyn:

Riding the line between a jam band and indy rock duo, the pair have since taken the world by storm with their cathedral-sized sounds, jazz chops, and rock-laden riffs. Their new album, Play Pause Stop, highlights the evolution of their music – the two bring on guitars, Mellotrons, Wurlitzers, and bass where there previously was only keyboard and drums. On June 28th, the duo’s national tour brings them to The Yard, for a day of astounding musical vistas and a jam session to end all jam sessions.
