Things in Herds

Nothing is Lost is an album that taps you gently on the shoulder demanding your undivided attention. Folk duo Things in Herds use their signature sparse instrumentation, mostly only guitar, piano, some harmonica and drums. Pete Lush writes the stuff and Miss Ping comes up with the musical imagery as well as the cover art. No fluff and filler on the fourth album by this Brighton band. They have added another compelling chapter to the big book of carefully constructed folk songs. Best served with a nice cup of tea and cucumber sandwiches.

Things in Herds: Nothing is Lost

Nothing is Lost is released on the band's own label G-Folk Records. Release date: June 2nd. Buy it from their website.

Passenger

Beware if your are music is compared to Nick Drake. It's a huge compliment and pretty hard to live up to. UK band Passenger hail from Brighton and have been embraced by the music press as the next big thing in terms of style and beauty. Their full length Wicked Man's Rest is quite good actually, nearly overflowing with original musical ideas, but the nasal vocals from songwriter Mike Rosenberg get under your skin in a bad way. No goosebumps, but a nasty rash.

Wicked Man's Rest is released on Chalk Mark. USA distribution through Cooking Vinyl. Also availbale on iTunes.

Do kids still pick up instruments and start banging away? Hell yeah. Moscow Rifle, a duo from Queens, NYC, proudly raise the DIY flag. They follow the path that was made by The New York Dolls and The Heartbreakers. They name The Strokes as a big influence. Such a shame that they no longer can play CBGB ...

Moscow Rifle:
Andres Gomes: guitar, vocals
Austin Peter: drums, percussion
