The Sword: Gods of the Earth

The Sword

What is with with those metal guys that they sing about swarthy guys with big weapons and pissed off gods? The Sword from Austin, Texas, conjure up a dark world on their new album Gods of the Earth and yes, they bring you damsels in distress, journeys through wasteland, blood and death. Bored kids in the suburbs will love them, their parents will have serious talks about what junior is into these days.

The Sword: Gods of the Earth

The Sword can obviously play and if you can get past their childish lyrics, you have an album that makes a nice addition to your "turn it up and bang your head" collection.

Gods of the Earth is released on Kemado Records.

Tracks:
  1. The Sundering
  2. The Frost-Giant's Daughter
  3. How Heavy This Axe
  4. Lords
  5. Fire Lances of the Ancient Hyperzephyrians
  6. To Take the Black
  7. Maiden, Mother, & Crone
  8. Under the Boughs
  9. Black River
  10. White Sea

I would like to know how you define "childish lyrics"....?, for a bad ass group of musicians this is a really shitty review.

I couldn't agree more...what makes this such a shitty review is the fact that the reviewer is completely trivializing what's happening with the sword. They are not faking it. These guys, while they really can play the shit out of their instruments, are actually into their own style (unlike so many bands who are mocking the very scene they are supposedly a part of. Read: hipster bands like The White Stripes, The Hives, The Strokes, The Vines, etc.) So these guys are a bit nerdy...at least they're honest. What, do they have to be singing super-pretentious lyrics to get a good review? Give them some credit for being honestly into what they're doing. Not everything has to be ironic and trendy. Not to mention the fact that these guys are better musicians than most of the bands that use "adult lyrics." Please try to deepen your understanding of the bands you review before you jump to hasty, shallow conclusions...
