Escape from MySpace
The Penny Black Remedy are a truly international band with a "country gypsy punk sound". The drummer is Dutch, the singer and guitar player is Scottish, bass provided by an Englishman and more vocals and percussion in the capable hands of a Croatian lady.
Lead singer Keith Thomson sounds a bit like a mash-up of Frank Black and Nick Cave with a penchant for politics. Get on the Rise is about being on the dole. Used to Have Such Nice Dreams is a showcase for Marijana Radcliffe, a Balkan flavoured folk song about good things turning sour.
There are plans for an album this year, culled from 2007 sessions. Warning: you will start jumping up and down with a big smile on your face when you listen to their music.
The Penny Black Remedy:
Keith Thomson: vocals, guitar, banjo, harmonica
Marijana Radcliffe: vocals, percussion
Steve Nelson: bass, vocals
Wilco van Eijk: drums, vocals
