Kaki King

Kaki King is one hell of an acoustic guitar player. On her new album she ups the ante with deceptive soft spoken lyrics about lovers who pissed her off. Her forte are the instrumentals, like Bone Chaos in the Castle, the opening track of her forthcoming labum Dreaming of Revenge. This is the kind of music Mike Oldfield has been trying to come up with for the last twenty years or so.

Kaki King: Dreaming of Revenge

Add pedal-steel and horns to the mix and you end up with a cognoscenti album that may ship lots of units.

Dreaming of Revenge is released on Velour Music. Release date: March 11.

The Interiors

The Interiors is a Chicago trio influenced by acts like Frank Black ("Ghosts") and the Red Hot Chili Peppers ("You Should Have Known"). A single - Power Lines - serves as a teaser for their full length self-titled debut album.

It's an album that can be pigeon holed as eighties college rock with a reverential nod to the classics. The band themselves name Fats Domino and the Talking Heads as one of their musical heroes. No wonder they come up with original rhythms that sound familiar somehow. Well done.
