John Cale

An interview with John Cale on Aussie e-zine iebar.com, conducted by Patrick Emery. About avant garde music:

Most of the avant garde I've come across have been students in college. There must be some corners of the globe that I'm really not aware of. I would imagine there's a quite lot of avant garde, but the avant garde would come, I think, from universities and colleges and well educated European culture. In America, although they know where it is, and San Diego is the place where I've found it – lately – next week it could be somewhere it is.
