Axl Rose

Guns N' Roses reforms, sort of. Will Axl be there too? Or will he be working on Chinese Democracy in stead?

At least four-fifths of the original Guns N' Roses lineup may reunite next week at a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the release of the band's classic debut album, Appetite For Destruction. According to GuitarWorld.com, founding drummer Steven Adler confirmed that he'll be at the event for sure, which is scheduled for July 28th at the Key Club in Los Angeles. Adler said, "I'll be down there with my band and Slash (guitars), Izzy (Stradlin', guitars) and Duff (McKagan, bass) will be there too. It's gonna be great."

Spoon: Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

Some indie bands get lucky. A few favorable reviews can snowball into a worldwide hype. Spoon, a foursome from Austin, Texas, have been making good albums for years and theri new one Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga takes them them up a few notches on the popularity scale, receiving tons of praise form the music blogger community.

So, is Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga really that good? Yes and no. Yes, because there a lot of changes taken rhythmically and their man main and songwriter Britt Daniel comes up with interesting lyrics. No, because they hold back. It feels like that there was an A&R man in the studio telling the band to crawl back to the mainstream in order to sell more records. Rave reviews from the cognoscenti are pretty cool, but there are bills to be paid.

The line-up on Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is listed as faux punks/gentlemen dudes, a bit a of a lark that holds a lot of truth in it. They sound smooth and confident, trying to add a touch of garage into the songs. Spoon lacks a cutting edge, but the album comes with an extra that is more interesting: the 22 minutes bonus disc Get Nice! You can hear the band trying out new things, experimenting, noodling and mucking about. Here they sound rough and ready, trading licks and fills, feeling their way into the new material.
