John Cale

John Cale was interviewed by Andrew Pemberton for an article in Q magazine (out October 1st). Pemberton posted an excerpt on his blog MusicToob. About Cale's first meeting with the Stooges:

When I first went out to their house in Michigan to meet Iggy and the Stooges, I was really hungry and so I opened the icebox and it was full of beer. Nothing else. I picked up a lap steel guitar and all the strings were tuned to one note. I said, What do you do with that? Iggy says, I sit up all night and play it. [Adopts thick Welsh accent] There’s something wrong ‘ere and it’s good!

Plant and Page playing at Live Aid 1985

Led Zeppelin to take the stage for a one-off memorial concert? The 1985 Live Aid reunion was a disaster. Will they get it right this time? If it happens at all?

Rock legends Led Zeppelin will reportedly reunite for a one-off memorial concert in honour of their late record boss before embarking on a world tour. The Whole Lotta Love hitmakers have only performed a handful of concerts, including Live Aid in 1985, since their split in 1980 following the death of drummer John Bonham. But singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones will re-group alongside Bonham's son Jason for a special concert in memory of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun in London.

Boris McCutcheon - Plaatboef instore in Amsterdam

A message from Boris McCutcheon, a great singer/songwriter from New Mexico. He is coming out of hiding. He is back on the road and he will start recording a new album entitled Bad Road, Good People in August.

It's been a long time - a very long time. I'm still out here in NM plucking away, writing songs, growing apple trees, and occasionally playing music for people. I thought you might want to come out and hear some new songs after the long winter of isolation with my first child and maybe hear some old favorites too.
I'll be playing around NM, and then be back in mid-July for a brief east coast tour with the southwestern Salt Licks; Susan Holmes on upright and electric bass, and Brett Davis on guitar, mandolin, banjo, and lap steel. Jeff Berlin will also be making an appearance at the Narrows show.
More news: a new album entitled Bad Road, Good People will be recorded in August so keep checking these emails for updates (I promise to send them with more frequency about shows).

Tour dates:
  • 06/30 Alley Cantina, Taos, NM 9:30pm
  • 07/07 Angel Fire Balloon Rally, Angel Fire, NM 5pm
  • 07/12 Narrows CFA, Fall River, NM 8pm
  • 07/14 Middle Earth, Bradford, VT 8pm
  • 07/15 Woods Hole, Community Hall, MA 7:30pm
  • 08/02 Santa Fe Summer Bandstand, Santa Fe, NM
  • 08/23 Taos Plaza, Taos, NM
  • 09/01 Alley Cantina, Taos, NM 9:30pm
