NME Presents: The Essential Bands - the Festival Edition

The staff of UK music magazine NME have put together the third edition of The Essential Bands series albums. Riding the wave of outdoor summer live shows this Festival Edition contains many acts that were served as the next big thing, the flavor of the week and/or the second coming of the Beatles. Most of these bands are able to put together at least one memorable song and in most cases that song made it unto this 2CD compilation. The Festival Edition is heavy with the typical English take on indie rock - catchy tunes with up front drumming and a singer that can barely hold a tune. It tastes good, but the majority of these bands will be a distant memory in 2008. There are a few exceptions. Acts like Muse, Gruff Rhys and Jarvis Cocker have proven their longevity. And Bloc Party and The View have survived the hype thus far. No Arctic Monkeys on this sampler, which is a relief in a way.

Keller Williams

Blogger Kane from Burningoak.com has a nice interview with Keller Williams, the solo act who can afford a band these days:

I've always wanted to do the band projects, and a long long time ago there wasn't really anything in the budget for it, you know? I just wasn’t able to afford it, the money wasn't there, and it just wasn't feasible to do it, and then all of a sudden, it just started to work as a solo act. And now I can afford it, and I'm really excited about it
