Former Shocking Blue singer Mariska Veres succumbed to cancer yesterday. She was 59 years old.
Her glory days were long gone, but she will always be remembered for lending her voice to classic songs like Mighty Joe, the worldwide smash hit Venus and Love Buzz (yes, Nirvana lovers, this is the original).
The Raconteurs opened their set at the Lowlands festival in The Netherlands with Send Me A Postcard, but modern days indie kids failed to recognize the tribute. Sic Transit Gloria Mundi.

Very sad. What a talent she was. Does anyone know where I can buy the final Shocking Blue CD listed on the Wikipedia site: "I Shock Me, You Shock Me Too"? It was their final release on Pink Elephant. Also would like to know the contents. Thanks.

I only came to know (and like) Shocking Blue these past couple of weeks, and by what I see online, I'm not the only one... I bet her death triggered this... I can't help to be touched and to think of this as a form of life after death. A modern kid

Hey I have loved Shocking Blue and MARISKA sence the seventies And have
every record they done. MARISKA was a very good singer I love her very Much.
She was also a beutiful Women ,I would like to meet her, but so sad I cant Today.

I only just found out a few minutes ago, it threw me back in my chair. Yes, I too as a teenager had a crush on her, and had three of Shocking Blue's albums at the time but increased that to about 8 when someone finally released them on CD in the early 90's down here in Aussieland.
She was knockout [and a great voice too !] and the photo I saw of her was about 1989 and unfortunaley the years wore away her great looks.
Shocking Blue were also underrated down here and virtually ignored after "Venus" down here apart from a few once-only airings of several follow-up songs.
Very sadly missed

Wonderful gypsy looks.
Met her a few times, my neighbor was the drummer of shocking blue. Nice guy (Cor van der Beek) piss artist. She was friendly and very down to earth.

I don't if this Shocking Blue memorial website can be worth joining. I tried to join today but the fellow who runs it banned me without giving a reason. I fail to see how that generates goodwill for the group.
