The next Metallica album will be released in the summer of 2007. Drummer Lars Ulrich:
I think we've realized that the creative process works a little slower for us than it used to, and we're OK with that. It's not a bad thing, unless, of course, you're waiting for a record.

Next year.Well we know the new song which sounds very much like the old songs from the 80's except the vocals which in studios you can fix anyway.And if all the rest of the songs have some ballads heavy parts and some songs that are just really fast and speedy with screaming I think we will be happy.And dont forget solos but that was evident in the new song which is now called Death Is Not The End and seems to be another heavy fast song from the 80's and in the studio the vocals will sound better so overall this new metallica album should be the 1983-1988 thing we want.

i dont really think 'Death in not the End' sounds like things from the 80s...tho it is a KICK ASS song. im not completely confident that the new album will be the "80s metallica album" we've been waiting for...but the "other new song" sounds very 80s and very cool. remember they are doing what THEY want to do - apart from lars, i dont think metallica pay too much attention to what their fans want - james and kirk said in an interview they write stuff THEY like and THEY want to hear. wich is NOT SELLING OUT (to all those people who said they sold out)
but anyway back to the point yes much looking forward to the album. METALLICA FUCKING RULE

I really look forward to the new album. It's good to finally find a forum where people don't just say "Metallica are fucked" or "Metallica are suckin' now", cause sure, they have done some wrong steps, but I think they're on the way back now. Like "Death is not the end" or "The other new song", they're both kickass songs.
And of course, they have a really good producer, Mr. Rick Rubin who produced my favourite band "System of a Down" through all their records. The man is a genius!
If the album is good, I'm gonna buy it as fast as I can!!

Sure, it was different, but it was still a fucking awesome album.
They didn't want to follow their trend of always playing solos, which is why they didn't. Why the fuck are you critisising them for doing something THEY want to do? And then you have a go at them for 'selling out'.

I liked it live, and we all know Studio versions are better than live. Both the songs they released live were great, and there are solos, like old times. and I agree that St Anger wasn't bad, it was different. They avoided a trend they set themselves, but now theyre back. Let's wait.

Metallicas Load, sellout or not was a great album for what it was...(best fucking album of the 90´s)... ReLoad felt kindoff like a leftover B side album, besides FixXxer, Fuel and a couple of others... St. Anger again, yeah, strange, out of the box kindoff album, very wierd drumsound almoust ruined the whole thing and the last four songs on the record could have been left out to be honest. Still okay.
Metallicas Load/Reload should not, EVER be compared to MOP... NEVER! they are a whole new era, they are not trash metal, they are not cliff burton, they are not cocaine and jack daniels. They rock for what they are! great rock albums. Ex: Bleeding me, King Nothing, Untill it sleeps, Hero Of the day, Outlaw torn etc.
Master of puppets( MOP )again is the best metal album ever, my opinion, it even kicks Reign in bloods ass! It is full of rage and thougthfull lyrics. I love it.
I saw Metallica live in the summer of ´06 and they still fucking got it... No let up from them yet... We still have to expect at least two studio albums, A greatest hits and some fucking Mustaine-Newsted-Mc Govney reunion thing... Can´t wait to see were Metallica will be after 10 years!

You are one of the best bands out there. You have skill. I think that all your albums are good, mostly the ones before load. I think people would like to here some 80's style metallica, like ride the lightning. Having solos after 30 seconds like on trapped under ice. Or having killer riffs like ride the lightning. Get some hit the lights, style songs or no remorse. Or anything from the first 3 albums. Anyway keep it up and take your time.

Love Metallica!! Well, I have been listened to them for 3 years now, not so long, but I know who they are, and they are fucking gods!!! The first thing I heard by Metallica was the St. Anger, it's a good album, not the best but good.. But come to Norway soon, I want to be on my first ever metallica concert now soon, but guys, use your time, I love your music and always will.

I have one thing and one thing only to say and i know i will catch a bunch of crap for it. I would like to see Metallica record another Load, in my opinion Load was one of the best rock albums ever recorder, not that i dont like the other albums but there is so much more to Load than there is to the other albums. Not just heavy and fast, but smart. Songs like Bleeding Me, Poor Twisted Me, House that Jack Built, and others are some of the best rock songs that were recorded in the 90's. The hint of blues mixed with hard rock is something that i had never heard done before Load came out. I am still excited to hear the new metallica record, but i hope the guys see this, cause i can't believe how many people bash Load, it is fantastic music.

I agree with Mike Cooper that Load was good,It worked and Hammet Hetfield,Newsted,Ulrich got their blues/boogie [i.e. 2x4] fixation out.That album is chock full of honest blues riffs,However Metallica is a band that playz by their own rules-screw the industry rules.The new album will be absolutely bitching.Maybe Mike will like the blues based solos tha Kirk[God[ Hammett lays down on the live versions of Dirty Window.I for one think that it is time for Metallica to put a double live album for us Aussies to fill in time while the new album gets finalised.
Off to the tattoo shop to get the Metallica logo[old one] inked in.

I just want to say I love all Metallica work they've done so far except I don't listen Load & ReLoad nor St. Anger... Because I don't like the songs that are on those albums except few of them... My Metallica is still in 80's and early 90's where they were THE BEST!!! But I'm sure they'll be back with new, kickass material...

I'm a new metallica fan(maybe 9 years),but ifeel good about what they released release &are ganna release.my friends' comments make sense tome because we all like our fan to be the best(as it is was and will be).so we'd better wait for the deadline and see what kicks our ears' ass! what i got through other metallica records it's definetly not as 80's or load era or st.anger ,but as all of them and more.

Metallica has always done what they have felt. When they were making thrash they had a drive to make fast-paced ass kicking metal, with the thought of hopefully ending the glam scene going on at the time. Metallica produced 3 great thrash albums in the 80's. "And Justice For All" wasn't thrash to me, it was something much darker and heavier. Even though Cliff wasn't alive to record "And Justice For All" his presence was felt on certain songs since he got to help write some songs before he died and before they were eventually recorded. The album was darker and heavier because Metallica never got the chance to mourne Cliff's death. Instead, they built up a lot of anger and put it out in that album. Many people believe that Bob Rock changed Metallica when the black album came out. The black album was the first album where Cliff's presence wasn't totally there. I like to think that Cliff was the main influence in Metallica's thrash/80's song writing. Without him, the complex riffs and brilliant bass lines were gone for good. Bob Rock didn't write Metallica's songs in the 90's, he just gave them advice on timing and pushed them. Metallica wrote their own songs. Bob Rock didnt tell James to write "Nothing Else Matters", James just wrote it because of a feeling he had for a girl at the time. So for all of you metal heads out there who think Bob Rock is responsible for taking thrash out of Metallica can think again. It's dumb ass metal heads that make bands less creative. Metallica almost didnt realease the song "Master of Puppets" because of the slow clean guitar part in the middle of the song. Metallica thought that the dumbass metal heads might find the song too happy sounding and almost didnt create the song. It's funny now because that is considered one of the, if not the best ,metal songs of all time. Thank god Metallica does what they feel. Metallica were the best at thrash in the 80's, They were the most complex and creative band in the 80's, and they were the best at Heavy Rock in the 90's. I respect every album they do because they do what they feel. St. Anger was all about anger within the band and all the tension. the tuned down guitars and angry riffs could be felt. The new album will not sound anything like the 80's albums. The past is gone, stop looking in the rear view mirror. Metallica is a dynamic band. That is what has kept them alive in the industry all these years. Don't expect this album to revert back to any past album sound. That's not what Metallica does. The new song and the other new song sound in no way like "And Justice For All". I thought it actually had parts of a lot of different albums. I personally can't wait for the new album to come out. I know trujillo is a very talented bass player and can't wait to hear what he can add to the new album. And don't count on a summer release of the new album. Lars hinted it might be released during the holiday season in late 07/early 08.

St. Anger wasn't bad compared to all the commercial music that is on the scene these days... but it surely wasn't even the 10% of what Metallica truly is... just thinking of Master Of Puppets, Ride the Lighting, Black Album... i can't imagine they released something like St. Anger. Kirk Hammet and James Hetfield said they would go back to the ol' crude metal that made them big back in the '80's, and i so fuckin' want them to.
BTW... many of you say "IF Jason was still in Metallica" ... that fucking pisses me off, you talk about Jason, and you don't see the genius Metallica lost once.. Cliff Burton, he gave that new style to Metallica in the Master Of Puppets and Ride the Lighting Album, they also used some of his rifts for the ... And Justice For All Album; he was big, he was a genius, he simply was the best ever and he died like so, he didn't taste failure. R.I.P Cliff Burton.

Not long to go now till the recording starts of the follow up album to St.Anger.To all those who think that St.Anger was not all that good-that it lacked solo's etc.Big Deal. one thing. solos. evry thin up to the black album was awsome.....load and reload were ok. st anger is one of the worst albums of all time. c;mon guys. james can actyually sing...and kirk can actually play guitar...fucking well actually. so why waste ta;ent on shite albums such as st anger. the new songs off the album are not like their 80's stuff. james's singing is crap. although at least kirk actually plays some solos....anyway...nuff said. should have stopped after reload.

Metallica has grown and changed since the days of Kill EM All, and every album they release has something new and different to offer, it's sad that all you bandwagoneers are pining for the past when all of today's metal "garbage" sounds identical. when we released the black album all you guys said that it was too pussy ass and that we became sellouts! we did sell out! and all of our albums since were sellouts! the traditional metallica fans hated it at first but eventually warmed to it. bu when we released st anger you guys hated it more than ever! but st anger is the most "traditional" metal album weve released since 1988. so if you listen to lightning or kill and then anger you would realise how similar they are!
