"From Hank to Hendrix". And 48 others to make it a nice round number. Janis Joplin is at #19.

Janis Joplin
The tortured 28-year-old was still working on her solo debut, Pearl, when she OD'd in Hollywood's Landmark Hotel. Her will left her estate to her family and $2,500 for her friends to "have a ball." Released four months later, Pearl topped the charts for nine weeks and yielded her biggest hit, the No. 1 single "Me and Bobby McGee." Since Joplin’s death, her music has been remastered and collected on numerous greatest-hits collections and a couple of box sets; she received a Lifetime Achievement Award Grammy in 2005.

Vu - Under Review

Popmatters.com has an extensieve review of the Velvet Underground DVD Under Review. No new stories from John Cale or Lou Reed:

Most unfortunate is Lou Reed's and John Cale's nonparticipation. Their comments in the generous, David Fricke-penned book that accompanied the 1995 box set Peel Slowly and See were witty and insightful and gave a warm humanity to a band that is too often pigeonholed as New York sleaze incarnate. Doug Yule and the ever-cool Maureen Tucker have to do the job here, providing first-hand accounts of life in the VU. It is Tucker, who spent several post-Velvets years raising her kids in Georgia while working at Wal-Mart, who gets the last word. Yes, she says, it would have been nice if the Velvet Underground had made 10 million dollars, but it's even better that they made music that still influences people today. For that reason alone, Under Review is worthwhile, as it pays tribute to the band's staying power even if it isn't an essential release.

A seminal sixties concert will be released:

On June 7th, 1969 Blind Faith, the supergroup consisting of Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Rick Grech and Ginger Baker, performed in front of 100,000 people in London's Hyde Park. Oddly enough, it was Blind Faith's only filmed performance. Now a new DVD, Hyde Park 1969, will capture the group's performance in its entirety, featuring such numbers as "Presence of the Lord," "Can't Find My Way Home" and The Rolling Stones' "Under My Thumb."
