Sony pledges not to use its fangs, but its corporate claws are in full swing.
After weeks of criticism, Sony has finally agreed to temporarily stand down on an abusive and likely illegal copy-restriction practice. Hold the applause.

The uninstaller posted by Sony creates a larged security hole.
Princeton's Ed Felten and Alex Halderman have published new research into a
grave security vulnerability opened up if you run the "uninstaller" that
Sony supplies to rid your PC of its malicious rootkit software, which it
installs when you insert an audio CD into your PC, as a means of restricting
your use of the music on the CD.
The new vulnerability is as grave as a security vulnerability can be. If you
run the uninstaller, your computer can be utterly compromised by an attacker
who can reach it via the Web. Your computer can be made to run any code and
surrender your data. It can be enlisted to act as a "zombie" for sending
spam or attacking sites that are being shaken down in protection rackets.

i was conditioned to assume that sony stood for innovative quality products. there were many examples of the decline of sony products that i overlooked simple because of this assumption. as i look back at the last 10 years, i have a been ripped off by sony's products and service. obvious signs are the increasing use of flimsy plastic parts.
i have a playstation and playstation 2 that are non-functioning. both sent back for service and shortly malfunctioning after service.
i have the original top of the line dvd player that cost $1000 when it came out that does not play 80% of the dvd's you put in it. that was sent in for service and had it's firmware updated. it now plays about 30% of today's dvd.
i have a minidisc player that fell apart starting with the battery door. sent in for service and returned broken still after so called service.
i have their high quality s-vhs player that just eats tapes.
Their service procedure sucks, call to find out where to send it, spend your money blind to get it there, the assess the damage and give you an estimate, they do the service and charge your credit card and send it back. by the time you get it back, the process was such a pain in the ass that you eventually dump the product for an updated product.
i finally see the light, sony will never get another penny from me. by the way, a google search shows that there are a ton of other people with the same observations.

oh, i forgot to mention a 32" sony trinitron that died for unknown reasons after 4 years.
i will not support the new blu-ray format. i even have an opportunity to acquire a new playstation 3 through AMEX rewards programs but would rather spend the points on a toshiba hd-dvd.
I HATE SONY
