What does one write when 2 days have passed and still I am moved. It happens every time I see him and being the "young woman in the furry coat" this was sadly only my 4th time. But I have been a huge Cale fan for 20 years and the 4 concerts were all momentous, be it mundane, but they were all in a word - perfection.
I first saw John Cale with the Velvet Underground in The Edinburgh Playhouse in 1993 when I was 17 and 13 years on he still makes me groove and act like a silly teenager. He is Papa Cale (I lost my father the year I fell in love with John), he is my constant inspiration - whenever I lose faith in music he is there - I cannot believe there are Caleists & Cale Commandments - I thought I lived in this made up world alone. I use Cale-isms certain words or pronunciations spoken so eloquently by Papa and try to fit them into everyday conversations.
The gig was so refreshing - it's incredibly divine that we are allowed such luxuries - I wasn't exaggerating when I told him Glasgow's God was on it's Altar, but if I could have a Cale fix every 2 or 3 years until he erodes (Cale-ism) I'd die a happy daughter.
