...De club is opgericht. Hij heet de C.V.D.G. Er is dus een club, maar daarmee zijn we er nog lang niet. Het moet niet een club worden, waar we alleen maar lid van zijn: het moet een club op voeten zijn. Aan papieren leden hebben we niets.En aan leden die als de voorzitter hun vraagt om iets te zeggen, het niet doen, daar hebben we helemaal niets aan. Die kunnen er beter uitgaan.

Fellow XS4ALL-blogger Steeph just founded a movement, de Virtuele Partij. It does look interesting enough, the quote from Gerard Reve's Werther Nieland was just for taking the mickey out of him.

It's a saddening and sometimes infuriating experience to read the blogs about the bomb attack on London. Fourty people killed, and hundreds injured. The dust seems to be settling now, people are off to the pub, and Manic, of Bloggerhead fame, has fired up his trusty old Potatoshop to produce this:

Bought me an iBook. Love it. Spent hours getting comfortable with it. Boy, do I miss the context-menu's. And the delete-button is missing. Which is a Good Thing, no more CNT-ALT-DEL, and a Bad Thing, because I'm a rotten typist, and I need all the erase-buttons that I can lay my fingers on.I already managed to crash Safari several times, with a little help from our friends in Redmond and Weesp, for it crashed every time I tried to name a post on this blog. It's a Known Problem, but I found that out after crashing Safari so hard that it forgot all its preferences. IE for the Mac crashes even sooner, it did not get past the login screen. Firefox seems to hold together, though.

It still amazes me that a tech-friendly 'NIX shop like xs4all can run a blogging application off an MS-DOS box. Did they ever consider Pivot? .Text blows chunks, and Scott Watermasyk blows even harder.

Tim Ireland, a.k.a. Manic, the guy whose blog inspired me to start blogging myself, is taking on Tony Blair. Why? People involved in this campaign pretty much want to get rid of Blair and bring a halt to his style of government. We hope that includes you. Common beefs include Iraq, the erosion of civil liberties, Blair's almost unquestioning loyalty to the Bush administration and the Blair government's ongoing swing to the right.

The goal is to significantly reduce Labour's majority in British parliament, in the hope that this will lead to the weakening of Blair's position within the Labour party, and a viable leadership challenge. To attain this goal they want people who live in 'safe' Labour seats or marginal ones to vote for the candidate most likely to beat the Labour candidate in the upcoming election.

Tim is an internet consulancy guy, and he is making use of everything the interweb has to offer. Apart from the 1984-inspired action website Backing Blair he uses blogs, groups on meeting.com and postings on messageboards. This is mixed with old-fashioned sticking up of posters. And when enough people donate money, they will be driving around in propaganda trucks.

I'm having trouble with the concept of voting for "anyone but xyz", but probably that's the only way you can make yourself heard in the election box in a country with a two- or three party system. And it's really necessary to protest, before Blair becomes worse than Margaret Thatcher.
