Man on the Ground

Kevin Sites is the journalist who reported about the shooting in the Mosque in Falluja. On his blog he gives a full account of the events leading to the shooting and of the shooting itself. He does this in the form of an Open Letter to Devil Dogs of the 3.1, because he is the kind of reporter who goes with the grunts into the frontline - a bit like Michael Herr used to do, but Site is less poetic, and certainly less stoned - so he has to give some kind of justification to the men he worked with, so they can read my account and make up your own minds about whether you think what I did was right or wrong.

Its is a long read, but worth it, because it gives an insight in the things that go on at the front.

So here, ultimately, is how it all plays out: when the Iraqi man in the mosque posed a threat, he was your enemy; when he was subdued he was your responsibility; when he was killed in front of my eyes and my camera -- the story of his death became my responsibility.

The burdens of war, as you so well know, are unforgiving for all of us.

An excellent read, especially after having suffered through all the inane vitriol the freepers are throwing around. Thanks for the link.
