'oi, funny name, feeksje temmen. must be a stand-up comedian, like. who the hell would name his daughter feeksje anyway, it's probably frysian, they all have names like vlonder or ippe', my colleague wilco said when we sat down under this poster. 'no silly, it's a poster for a play, after shakespeare's taming of the shrew. i think i'll pop in on sunday to see it'. then the beer arrived.
wilco prefers to see theremins over people on stage, i had to go by myself to the lievevrouw theatre. it was an afternoon well spent, for feeksje temmen is an enjoyable play for everyone from 8 to 88 years old.
acting style, falling in and out of character, bursting out in - very nice a capella - song make the incomprehensible shakespeare palatable for the younger crowd, some parts of the text are aimed at a more mature audience. i heard muffled laughter from the technicians' lodge when bianca exclaimed: 'i haven't had any in months'.
the cast was adorable and very professional, especially katharina (joanne swaan), she was so in character that she quasi took it out on a poor stagehand before curtains-up. nice girl, if you're into puppy-fat.
i preferred the untamed katharina over the tame one, but that's me, that is.
