Insecurity in Nairobi is such a daily issue, you don't even talk about it anymore. Protecting yourself has become an almost subconcious activity. Notorious are the so-called car jackings. Thugs stop your vehicle, point a gun at you, and you have to surrender all you have. Usually that's your money and mobile phone. These car jackings also happen to the matatus. The minivans which are very popular in Kenya. The last few months a new kind of jacking appeared. The high jacking of city buses. Imagine, four guys entering the bus and asking the people to empty their pockets. It happens on clear daylight, and can be performed between two stops without the police ever seeing it.
The bus company Cityhoppa recently introduced entry checks at critical bus stops. The worrying thing about it, you almost think it's normal.

Enjoy the week.

In Kenya watching the news on television is very important. Especially when the seven o'clock evening bulletin starts, public life almost comes to a stand still. On our daily terrace the people are flocking to get their share of the news.
