Arrived in Nairobi now, after a 24-hour-journey from Gulu. Spent 19 hours of that in the bus. Editing now behind the laptop at home. Am a bit delayed because I forgot to carry the charger on my trip. Next time I will not fail to bring my own head too.
In Kampala I went to hotel Havana, like I usually do. Had a happy discussion with the manager about Gulu. It is his home area, and also he mentioned the place improved a lot since last year. There are so many new businesses, bars and restaurants opened, and people are now gallivanting the streets in cosy chit chats.
It's so funny to experience the difference between the critical Human Rights Watch report and the reality on ground. I will and cannot deny that UPDF soldiers are committing abuses against the local population, but also we have to stress the changes for the good. If not forgotten they can easily wipe out the bad things I would say. It's an African way of looking at things, which I recently start to learn.
Enjoy your weekend.
