It's late, but I have to say it. The last weeks I was in Lusaka Zambia living with my friends. Also on Saturday the 8th of July. Just another ordinary day. The sun shining, the people preparing for their weekly day out, or not. In the evening I went to Chrismar Hotel in Kabulonga for dinner. A nice place, dark wooden tables in huts with grass roofs. Around eight the life band took the stage and began to play a selection of international evergreens. On the television a silent football match was showing.
In Nairobi I came to understand that Live8 was held then. Imagine, the whole week in Lusaka we didn't hear anything about it. It was not on the television, nor radio. There were no posters along the roads, and also the bars didn't switch to Live8. I hear more people telling that Live8 wasn't in the minds of people at all. Was it just a compulsory party for Westerners, enjoying of giving some attention to Africa as a whole? It, at least, wasn't for many Africans. They just continued their usual art of survival.
