Woke up at five today. Still enjoying the one hour time difference with Zambia. Acquisition started. Reading papers and online news sources. Preparing reports in Northern Uganda on the ongoing insurgence.

Returned in Nairobi, and when arrived at JKIA I heard that meanwhile the new constitution for Sudan had been signed. President Omar Bashir remains, and rebel commander John Garang is appointed first Vice President. That's interesting news from Africa. Also for me, since I used to live for quite a while in Rumbek - Southern Sudan. I remember there were no roads, no power nor regular water supplies. Then I was in Khartoum, one and half year later. Tarmac everywhere, DSL internet connections, and a bustling city life (albeit without alcohol). You have to believe in a prosperous future for Sudan. The oil reserves of the country can provide for the fundings, surely now the two sides seem to be united (?). John Garang went to Khartoum since 22 years, when he left to the South to start a rebellion. It is 2005 now, and at least I came to understand that in Rumbek the Kenya Commercial Bank opened an office, and a mobile telephone network is operating.
