You could say that the only thing that is African in the backpackers in Livingstone are the caterpillars they serve. Also me had them. My God, thought it was deepfried chilly. They were served with the stew. The good thing about it they don't have any taste when they crackle between your teeth. Don't know what it is with these backpack places. Many visitors pretend to like the basic service, but I came to realise that a lot visitors come there using the first class coaches of Inter Cape Mainliner or some other (most probably) South African bus operator. They have seen the real Africa through a air-conditioned corridor, somehow like the Caprivi Strip that will lead them to Windhoek for the compulsory stunning desert views. The Vic Falls are indeed impressive, and it's a pity to know that many visitors will only see just the falls, not being connected with the surrounding community.
