When I Singapore I bought a brand new 3G mobile phone. It has a 2 megapixel photo camera on board. Imagine, a few years ago that was in a digital camera. The picture quality is stunning. Also the camera boasts a high resolution video, where you can even adjust the white balance, and it has a good zoom. The video type is 3GP, which is a Quicktime format. After testing in Dubai I concluded the phone is suitable for video reporting.
So this morning I bumped into a group of Somali refugees taking to the street because their permits might expire. I announced myself as a journalist, and I shot a news feature, including the reaction of a UNHCR representative. I will edit the footage on my laptop, but that can also be done on the phone it self, including subtitling. This is great, and the output will be presented in the blog when finished.
Am busy with finalizing the reports on Banda Aceh.
