Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull

Posted on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 10:45 AM

It's been 19 years. So long have I been waiting for this movie.

I still remember the sadness I felt while watching my hero ride off with his father and friends into the sunset of "The last crusade". Back then, it was said that that was to be Indy's final adventure on the big screen.

The adventures of "Young Indiana Jones" on TV never really brought back that passion; different actor and too educating.

But two years ago the grandmasters George and Steven brought forth the official message that there was to be a new adventure. They made my day! And it was to be an homage to the early science fiction films (long before Star Wars, etc.).

Sunday I saw the movie. And it was exactly how I expected it. They were able to bring back the same kind of humor, color usage, chases, fight scenes, adventurous feeling, one liners (I'm sorry, I meant drop dead comrade.), etc. It was great! I felt like a child again and thought back to my heroes back then: Indiana Jones and Luke Skywalker. Those were the days...
Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull is entertainment, so if you visit visit the cinema to see this movie, see it like that. Don't expect a modern movie full of CGI, because it isn't. Even the Paramount logo and the font of the opening credits are the same as from "Raiders of the lost ark". They built sets (which is rare these days) and used mate paintings in the background for the sceneries.

My only point of critique is the size of the group Indy brings with him. This distracts our attention from Indiana, as Steven obviously wanted to make us know the other characters too. So for an eventual fifth installment:"Steven, make it Indy only!".
It's not at the same height as "Temple of doom", but still a good movie! Welcome back Indiana!!!

My rating: 8 out of 10

It was fun indeed :-) A pure no-brainer. The Indians that came out of nowhere annoyed me i have to say. They didn't add anything to the story. And they disappeared like smoke... Anyway, watch it the way you watched the others 19 years ago: like a kid.

Had a great time. I agree with the 8 out of 10 rating.
