If you ever get to visit Hawaii's Big Island, Volcano National Park is absolutely a must-see. Dame Pele's home has it all: Nene, Hawaiian rain forests and of course volcanoes. In fact, the Kilauea may just be the
world's most active volcano! Give this national park a lot of your time, it is huge and there is a lot to discover. However, if you only have one or two days; or you are just not that into volcanics, try the
Kilauea'iki trail, as this will offer you a bit of everything, but bite sized. It is easy to moderate, takes you about 2 hours if you stop and smell the Ohia.
Alternatively, you can "do" almost all Volcano locations from your car. The crater rim drive is recommended, with its many view points over unique otherworldly landscapes. But for me, a drive-thru experience is never enough. I need to feel the land under my feet, smell the air (or the
VOG) and hear the birds.
