Every blog needs a weekly feature. Ok maybe not, but mine does. Since I am living in Hawaii I thought I'd just do a post a week on something remarkable, odd or just plain weird that I encountered here in Hawaii.
Weekly Hawaiiana could be anything, like culture, politics, food, or nature.
This week it is a picture of a cute little creature:
Meet
Scolopendra subspinipes. So they are actually neither cute, nor little (they can reach 20 cm in length). Way too many legs and a mean bite to boot.
They were introduced, from Asia, either in the 19th century, or possibly even when the first Polynesian travelers arrived. Their diet consists of insects and sometimes even gecko's.
I haven't met one yet, and I intend to keep it that way.
