Like so many people (up to 20% of Western society), I have allergies. Tree pollen, grass pollen, cats, dogs, rabbits, carrots, hazelnuts, walnuts, apples, peaches, cherries, and dust mite feces all make me itch, wheeze, and sneeze. So I keep an eye on new developments in allergy research. In this post, I will discuss interesting new insights in why allergies are on the rise, and how we can benefit from researching the co-evolution of parasites and their hosts (us).

This is third and last post on the Intelligent Design debate organised by the VU in Amsterdam on 3 February.

The third speaker was Prof. Bram van Beek, a theologian and biologist at the Faculty of Theology at the VU.

Prof. van Beek (BvB) started his lecture by identifying the most important aspects in the discussion on intelligent design.

The second lecture at the symposium on intelligent design, organised by the VU in Amsterdam on 3 February 2006, was by Prof. in molecular cell physiology, Hans Westerhoff (HW) of the VU.

HW starts of by stating that, if ID is accepted, as a metaphysical influence on natural processes, science becomes futile.

Last Friday I traveled to the Vrije Universiteit (VU) in Amsterdam, for a mini symposium on intelligent design. The debate was organised by the faculties of theology and philosophy at the VU, as the board of directors of the VU wants to draw attention to the debate.
