Winkeliers uit het hele land meldden voor de middag al dat hun voorraad compleet is uitverkocht. De zaterdagoplage van het AD werd eenmalig tot 750.000 exemplaren verhoogd. Het is voor het eerst in de vaderlandse muziekgeschiedenis dat een album van een Nederlandse topartiest via een krant verschijnt.&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;

In de zomer van 2010 nam Trijntje in de VS echter nog een volwaardig album op: Sundays in New York. Dit album is het resultaat van opnamesessies met producer John Clayton in de beroemde Capitol Tower Studios in Los Angeles, waar ook Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole en de Beach Boys opnamen. This is a wonderful documentation of Baker&amp;#8217;s real talent, as opposed to his reputation as of one of the most intriguing, brilliant and inconsistent performers in the history of jazz. The reasons for that inconsistency, of course, stemmed from his life-long battle with drink and drugs. While there are so many discs of Baker&amp;#8217;s less-than-stellar performances on CD,&lt;SPAN class=Apple-converted-space&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;I&gt;The Sesjun Radio Shows&lt;/I&gt;&lt;SPAN class=Apple-converted-space&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/SPAN&gt;catches the singer/trumpeter when he was on. The tapes come from the Dutch radio show &amp;#8220;Tros Sesjun,&amp;#8221; a weekly program that featured live jazz from 1973 to 2004. This compilation comes from five shows Baker did for &amp;#8220;Tros Sesjun,&amp;#8221; dating from 1976 to 1984, a period when Baker was considered to be washed up. According to the liner notes, Baker always showed up on time and ready to play his &amp;#8220;Tros Sesjun&amp;#8221; gigs out of respect for producer Dick de Winter and host Cees Schrama, who were also musicians. The results are intimate and wonderful takes on the West Coast cool of Baker&amp;#8217;s voice and trumpet. The two-disc set includes 15 Baker-fan favorites, including &amp;#8220;I&amp;#8217;m Old Fashioned,&amp;#8221; &amp;#8220;Just Friends,&amp;#8221; &amp;#8220;My Foolish Heart&amp;#8221; and &amp;#8220;Love For Sale.&amp;#8221; Because the lineup for this recording was taken from five different performances, instrumentation and musicians change from tune to tune. Sinds eind november zijn meer dan 700 exemplaren verkocht van het boekje plus cd met Groningse jazz. Op de cd brengt het trio Glas, Scheele &amp;amp; Lass Groningstalige jazzmuziek. Die grijpt terug op de in het Gronings vertaalde standards, waarmee Roelof en Jannie Stalknecht een halve eeuw geleden al succes hadden. &lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&lt;FONT size=2 face=Verdana&gt;De dichters Jan Glas en Erik Harteveld voegden daar nieuwe vertalingen aan toe. Journalist Illand Pietersma schreef een achtergrondverhaal over Groningse jazz en interviewde de zussen Jannie en Rika Stalknecht. Het trio Glas, Scheele &amp;amp; Lass trad inmiddels al op in De Smederij in Groningen en tijdens de offici&amp;#235;le presentatie op 26 november in Het Huis voor de Groninger Cultuur. In de regio is onder meer door radio Noord en OOG-radio aandacht besteed aan Diezeg Laand. Maar ook verschillende landelijke media, zoals de Volkskrant en Radio 6, hebben de unieke Groningstalige jazz inmiddels positief besproken. &lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;

Deze cd werd opgenomen op 13 november en 22 december 2009, Bunch stierf 30 maart 2010. Hoewel hij vooral op de achtergrond een rol van betekenis vervulde, laat John Bunch per saldo een indrukwekkende loopbaan in de jazz zien.&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class=MsoPlainText&gt;&lt;FONT size=2 face=Verdana&gt;Hij was een der weinige pianisten die er in de veertiger jaren in slaagden&lt;SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/SPAN&gt;stilistisch de overgang van swing naar bebop te maken. Zijn elegante en transparante stijl maakte hem tot veelgevraagde begeleider van toppers als Benny Goodman, Woody Herman en Tony Bennett. Hij verloor nooit zijn gevoel voor de vooroorlogse swing of zijn bewondering voor Teddy Wilson. In de laatste jaren speelde hij in en trio met gitarist Bucky Pizzarelli en bassist Jay Leonhart.&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class=MsoPlainText&gt;&lt;FONT size=2 face=Verdana&gt;Vrij vlot nadat John Bunch op 1 december 1921 in Tipton Indiana was geboren, werd hem de jazzvlo deelachtig. In eerste instantie was daar de invloed van Fats Waller. Na lessen bij George Johnson, het locale Fats Waller epigoon, liftte de jonge Bunch naar een ander stad om samen met andere musici te spelen. Bij het uitbreken van de Tweede Wereldoorlog was hij zelfstandig jazzmusicus.&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;

&lt;P style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class=MsoPlainText&gt;&lt;FONT size=2 face=Verdana&gt;Hij werd ingelijfd bij het Army Air Corps en kreeg een opleiding om bombardementen uit te voeren. Gedurende een vlucht van zijn B-17 Flying Fortress boven Duitsland werd zijn vliegtuig neergehaald en werd hij op 2 november 1944 krijgsgevangene. Zes maanden later werd hij bevrijd.&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;

&lt;P style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class=MsoPlainText&gt;&lt;FONT size=2 face=Verdana&gt;Na de oorlog wilde hij een muziekstudie oppakken, maar hij werd afgewezen vanwege gebrek aan klassieke training. Het weerhield hem er niet van bebop te studeren, de nieuwe jazz die zich toen duidelijk manifesteerde. Zijn nieuwe held werd Bud Powell, wiens kijk op harmonie Bunch intrigeerde. Ook vond hij werk bij de locale boppers in Indianapolis, waaronder Wes Montgomery.&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class=MsoPlainText&gt;&lt;FONT size=2 face=Verdana&gt;In de vroege vijftiger jaren verhuisde Bunch naar Los Angeles. Daar verwachtte hij meer mogelijkheden te vinden om op te treden. Hij werd lid van de Woody Herman band (1956-1957), die hij naar New York volgde. Eenmaal in Yhe Big Apple switchte Bunch naar Benny Goodman. Incidenteel werkte hij ook bij groepen, die dan weer door Maynard Ferguson(1958),Gene Krupa(1961-1964),&lt;SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/SPAN&gt;of Buddy Rich(1966) werden geleid. Het langst werkte hij voor Tony Bennett(1966-1972), zowel als begeleider als muzikaal leider. Subtiel en gevoelig, zo kan zijn spel het best worden gekarakteriseerd. Die eigenschap en een aard met een sterk neiging zichzelf weg te cijferen, kan de reden zijn dat Bunch minder bekend is gebleven bij het jazzpubliek. Maar tot het laatst had hij een druk werkschema, maakte cd's die goed werden gewaardeerd en speelde voor publiek dat zijn werk op prijs stelde.&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt" class=MsoPlainText&gt;&lt;FONT size=2 face=Verdana&gt;Het is moeilijk om op de cd Do Not&lt;SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/SPAN&gt;Disturb een hoogtepunt of dieptepunt aan te wijzen. Net als bij de grote voorbeelden van het piano, gitaar, bas trio, t.w. Nat King Cole of Art Tatum is dit trio van superbe klasse, Naast welhaast klassieke musicalsongs van Cole Porter, Jerome Kern en Gershwin, zijn er ook songs van b.v. Sonny Rollins, Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck te beluisteren in perfect en tegelijkertijd subtiel swingende versies. Een mooiere afsluiting van een carri&amp;#232;re is nauwelijks denkbaar.&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;

&lt;P&gt;&lt;FONT size=2 face=Verdana&gt;Maiwald toont zich op zijn zelf geproduceerde album Two Faces een degelijk pianist, die weet wat hij wil. Binnen het raamwerk van voornamelijk eigen composities zet hij samen met de goed volgende Bakker en Kesselaar de paden uit. Maiwald heeft een romantisch kleurenpalet, zowel in zijn thema&amp;#8217;s als in zijn solo&amp;#8217;s. Dit resulteert in een plaat die vrij makkelijk te consumeren is, en weinig eisen stelt aan de luisteraar. Het is aangename muziek om de dag mee te beginnen en een krantje bij te lezen. Nummers als The Riddle en Doorways neigen meer naar easy listening dan naar jazz. In &lt;SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; FONT-SIZE: 11pt; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-ansi-language: NL; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi"&gt;Conduction&lt;/SPAN&gt;, een van de zeldzame nummers op deze plaat met een echte swing-feel, verschuift de focus naar iets meer vrijheid van expressie, maar alles blijft ook hier uiterst beheerst.&lt;BR&gt;Maiwalds muziek zou hiermee ook binnen het afzetgebied van het ECM-label een goed figuur slaan. Zijn gevoel voor harmonie doet denken aan een pianist als Lyle Mays &amp;#8211; een voorkeur voor warme, vriendelijke akkoorden, of net beschaafd wringend, en veel straight eighths, liever dan rechtgeaarde swing.&lt;BR&gt;&lt;BR&gt;Aan Maiwalds techniek en zijn kennis van de muziektheorie schort niets, maar wat meer zin voor avontuur zou geen kwaad kunnen. Al zijn thema&amp;#8217;s komen me vaag bekend voor.
