George Benson doet dit jaar de opening van het North Sea Jazz Festival. De Amerikaanse zanger en gitarist brengt op 8 juli een eerbetoon aan jazzlegende Nat King Cole tijdens het North Sea Jazz Gala, waarmee de 34e editie van het evenement officieel wordt geopend. Dat heeft de organisatie van het festival dinsdag bekendgemaakt.
Naast een eerbetoon aan Cole zal de 66-jarige tienvoudig Grammywinnaar ook eigen hits ten gehore brengen. De muzikant is bekend van nummers als 'This Masquerade', 'Give Me the Night' en 'Nothing's gonna change my love for you'.
Het North Sea Jazz Festival vindt dit jaar van 10 tot en met 12 juli plaats in Ahoy in Rotterdam. Tot de optredende artiesten behoren Burt Bacharach, John Scofield, Duffy, Jamie Cullum en B.B. King.
