In my previous post I wrote about the VoipBuster service. They have a simple client for their service, its functional, but simple.
The VoipBuster service is using the SIP protocol, which is one of the open protocols, for which many clients exists. The first alternative client I tried was the X-Lite client, its free and can be obained from http://www.xten.com/
The following settings will configure this client for voipbuster, at least it worked for me:
SIP Proxy:
- Enabled: Yes
- Display Name:
- Username:
- Authorization User:
- Password:
- Domain/Realm: sip.voipbuster.com
- SIP Proxy: sip.voipbuster.com
- Out Bound Proxy: sip.voipbuster.com:5080
- Use Outbound Proxy: Default
- Send Internal IP: Default
- Register: Default
Because NAT translation is used in my local network, a STUN server (not VOIP service dependend) has to be configured in the network settings:
Network settings:
- Auto Detect IP: Yes
- Use X-NAT to Choose SIP/RTP Ports: Never
- ListenSIP Port: 5060
- Listen RTP Port: 8000
- Primary STUN Server: stun.sipgate.net:10000
- Secondary STUN Server: xten.net
- Provider DNS Server: dns.xten.net
On the router the following UDP ports has to be forwarded: 5060, 5062, 8000-8002, 30000-30021 to the PC that is used to make calls. Also make sure that the firewall is not blocking ports that this application uses.
One of the nice features of this client, is that you can improve the voice quality by disabling some of the “ inferior” codecs, like the GSM coded.
