SUV's are often criticized because of the environmental and safety aspects. They spend a lot of gasoline and they are very unsafe if you're not inside the SUV.
So what would you do if you don't like them?

Last year, september 17th, strange animals are found at the Californian coast: the Cig Egret, the Cola Bass and the Spork Crab. Environmentalists think they are mutants arise from old style animals and carbage.

That was the question I asked a few weeks ago. The same question was also the beginning of a new national campaign in the Netherlands. It's all about climate change.
40 Dutch NGO's work together is this campaign, and that's unique.

The future of the planet is in your hands

Activists of Greenpeace had placed an enormous banner in the hand of the Cristo Redentor (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) at march 16. The message “the future of the planet is in your hands” was addressed to the representatives of governments of the whole world congregated in Curitiba to argue about protection to the different forms of life in the world.

Below: (March 6) Greenpeace protests against bigger deforestation of the last years in the region of Santarém.
In a remote area of the forest, 120 km of Santarém, in Pará, inhabitants of communities in the region and Greenpeace had protested today against the deforestation. The group of 50 people travelled about 5 hours in precarious conditions arriving at an area of 1.650 hectares totally devastated. There, the group opened a banner of 2.500 square meters with the message "100% Crime" and planted some trees.
In accordance with the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Natural resources, this is the biggest deforestation of the region in last the seven years.

The president of the Association of the Agricultural Producers of Santarém (Apas), José Donizetti Pires de Oliveira, (responsible for the deforestation), reacted with violence. He and his men passed with the car over the banner some times to destroy it, broke the glass of one of the pickup trucks and attacked the protesters. Nobody was wounded.

The design of the products is a bit poor but the action was new to me. I never thought about the problems caused by the daylight saving time.

Life in sea

The underwater world is miraculous nicely and indispensable for people and animal. Although the seas are fished out rapidly and millions of sea animals die unnecessarily in fish nets. Also this fish. You can do something about it. How? Use the 'VISwijzer'. This way you know exactly which nice fishes can you eat without fealing bad.
('VISwijzer" have two meanings in Dutch: 1: fish wise; 2: fish manual)

This is the new worldwide campaign of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The copy above explains all. The artwork is not so spectacular as the WWF-post here before but not less important.
The campaign have two goals. Tell the fishing trade to fish with responsibility. And ask the fish consumer to buy only fish with a hallmark.
The start of the campaign is also the start of building this hallmark.

The first picture above is from the start of this campaign in the Netherlands at the beach.
