Stel dat je in die golf mee reist, dan kun je je voorstellen dat de zee ineens veel ondieper wordt. Er is geen andere weg voor de muur van water dan omhoog.

900 Km / u = 250 meter per seconde. hmm... Dat is zelfs nog onderde geluidssnelheid in lucht. Dat betekent dat we 3 soorten golven door water hebben: Oppervlakte gevolven (woelige baren), tsunami's, en geluid. Ik ben nu wel benieuwd naar de precieze tijdstippen waarop de golven zijn aangekomen.

Tsunami's in de animaties op CNN suggereren dat de stromingssnelheid naar het westen sneller ging dan naar het oosten. Kennelijk is de snelheid waarmee zo'n surge stroomt van een hoop zaken afhankelijk.

yep, onder andere van de diepte, deste dieper, deste groter de druk, deste sneller. Naar het westen is de oceaan dieper, dus reist de drukgolf sneller.
