BUNKERBIJBLOG 

Er zit een gat in de bunker.

Ik moet bekennen, ik werd er even stil van, van die aanslag. Er is de afgelopen week zó veel geschreven over de zaak-Holleeder – inclusief door mijzelf – dat mijn blogje ervan verstomde. Ik was ook te moe. Kun je nagaan hoe moe Holleeder geweest moet zijn.

Het was me het weekje wel.
Werd in het holst van de nacht uit mijn bed gebeld, nadat die raketten waren ingeslagen. Even brutaal als onbegrijpelijk, die aanslag. Wij waren natuurlijk blij dat zich niemand in de bunker bevond toen die dingen kwamen binnenzeilen. Maar toch. Waarom schoot men op de eerste verdieping? De zittingszaal bevindt zich daar een verdieping onder.
Als je het zaakje dan toch wil opjuinen, waarom schiet je dáár dan niet op?

De beveiligers van de bunker toonden die dag hun onveranderlijk professionele gezicht. Ze gaven geen krimp. Toen het explosieve zaakje was opgeruimd, was het business as usual. Daar neem ik mijn petje voor af. De bunker moet blijven.

De rest van de week zagen wij hoofdrolspeler Holleeder zienderogen achteruitgaan. Hij ging de drie zittingsdagen geheel in het zwart gekleed. Evenals de twee verdachte vrouwen in dit circus, Orminda en Maike. Zij waren er maandag ook bij, buiten lichtelijk opgejaagd door de cameravoerende pers. Zonnebrillen en sjaals voorkwamen een al te uitbundige herkenning. Ze hebben niets gezegd.

Holleeder is vermagerd, zoveel is, na vergelijking met de inmiddels overbekende foto’s van hem toen hij nog in goeden doen was, duidelijk. Maandag zagen wij hem van zeer dichtbij, nadat de zitting was verplaatst naar het gewone gerechtsgebouw aan de Parnassusweg. Ik zat achter mijn collega van Elsevier, Gerlof Leistra. Holleeder wierp hem, toen hij langs ons liep, een blik toe die onrustig maakte.

Tot dergelijke blikken was hij donderdag in elk geval niet meer in staat – hij was blij dat hij zijn ogen nog kon openhouden.

Terwijl wij luisterden naar de op band opgenomen stem van wijlen Willem Endstra, sloeg de uitputting bij Holleeder toe. Hij schudde zijn hoofd een paar keer bij het horen van Endstra’s beweringen, maar legde het verder vooral op zijn armen, op tafel. Voor hem een mandarijntje en een Mars. Zelfs daar had hij geen zin meer in.

Jan-Hein Kuijpers werd er boos om, hij vond dat het zo niet langer kon. Daar heeft hij misschien wel gelijk in. Een verdachte moet natuurlijk niet dusdanig gekweld worden dat hij zijn eigen proces niet meer kan volgen. Ook Willem Holleeder niet. Sterker nog: om dit proces te kunnen volgen moet je behoorlijk op het puntje van je stoel zitten. Als Holleeder dat in deze toestand zou doen, zou hij er meteen van af vallen.

Er leek zich donderdag even een klein scheurtje af te tekenen in de relatie tussen Holleeder en zijn advocaat. Kuijpers wilde de zitting onderbreken omdat hij vond dat er een arts naar zijn cliënt moest kijken. Holleeder wilde verder, het ging wel, zei hij. Maar hij zei nog meer – omdat hij niet in een microfoon sprak, konden wij dat, gezeten achter het gepantserde tribuneglas, niet horen, althans niet helemaal. Ik vernam het later van iemand die in de zaal zat en het wel had kunnen verstaan. Tegen officier van justitie Koos Plooij:,,U heeft ervoor gezorgd dat ik niet de raadsman heb die ik wilde hebben.’’ Tegen Plooij en de rechtbank: ,,Dan mag u mij het gedrag van deze raadsman niet aanrekenen.’’

Kuijpers doet zijn stinkende best, zo veel is duidelijk. Hij verkeert in een weinig benijdenswaardige positie. Hij heeft de draad moeten oppakken waar Bram Moszkowicz zich genoodzaakt zag hem te laten vallen. Die draad zit vast aan de trekhaak van een locomotief die op stoom begint te komen. Dat is zwaar, zeker als je een cliënt hebt die nauwelijks meer op zijn benen kan staan. En zeker als een man als Plooij de machinist is.

In het milieu waarin Holleeder volgens justitie verkeerde toen hij nog niet in de EBI opgeborgen zat, rommelt het intussen flink. Er is een kroongetuige opgestaan die zegt licht te kunnen werpen op een reeks liquidaties. Kees Houtman, Thomas van der Bijl. Ik vraag me nog steeds af of die ontwikkelingen óók van invloed zin geweest op het gestel van Holleeder, voor zover zij hem bekend zijn.

De onoplosbaarheid van die liquidaties lijkt te verdwijnen.

Er zit een gat in de onderwereld.
