Dear editor and copywriter,

Next time you do an item about something you don't know anything about, please do your homework and get your facts straight.

You see, the guy who you had for your interview makes a magazine about anime, manga and sorts, but has nothing to do with Anime 2007.

However...

The guy who introduced himself as one of the organizers of the festival, who got you some DVD material and a couple of rooms to film in, and which you basically ignored until you took off again, actually co-organizes Anime 2007.

Apparently, you found the memory cards and rumble pack of my DreamCast very attractive during Anime 2007, so you decided to take them home with you.

I kindly ask you to return them to me, as they are the result of many hours of playing games and saving my results onto them.

The material loss isn't great, the emotional loss, however, is quite large. So please contact me through the proper channels; I won't press any charges if you just grow some balls and return to me what was not yours in the first place.

A serious case of neglect...

This blog suffers. I'm currently trying to keep up with my new job, my preparations for Anime 2007 and my personal life. I'm managing these quite well, I think, but other projects need to be on the back burner, like this blog.

I'll make it up to you by finally sorting my travelpics.

Logic in software

As Anime 2007 comes closer and closer, I'm starting to get to the small things.
One of those things is to prepare a manual for our gophers, so that they can operate the hard disk recorders we purchased for our festival. As these were purchased in Japan, the entire interface of the machine is in Japanese. Since very few of our gophers can actually read Japanese, a small manual might come in handy.

To make it as easy as possible, I decided to put some screen shots in the manual for good measure, so I went to work with a Pinnacle Dazzle.
Nice bit of kit, but since the recorder is downstairs in the living room, and my primary computer sits in my office upstairs, I ran into a slight problem.

Hold on, I have a laptop. An older model, but still capable of helping me out.

Or so I thought.

I spent an hour mucking about while the machine was testing my patience once again (long story, I'll tell you about it another time), and after the installment of 1,5GB of data and two reboots, Windows reported that everything has been installed, and I could finally get to work...

Wrong.

When the beast finally showed me the splash screen for Studio 10, it also showed me an error message, stating that I had insufficient memory to run the bloody program!

Dear Pinnacle,

Would it be too much to ask if you would put a little more attention to the installer for your products, and tell your customers these kinds of trivial things BEFORE they spend an hour installing God-knows-what and pissing about in order to try and get their kit to work?
It would be highly apreciated.

In the end, I went for the low-fi approach; a digital camera on a tripod in front of my TV. It's not rocket science nor is it high in quality, but it works.
I only wish I thought of that sooner, otherwise I wouldn't have spent nearly two hours frustrating myself.

Anime 2007: Working on all sorts of stuff

Well, since there are only three weeks left to Anime 2007, tension starts to rise.
I'll be expecting the source material for the third Video Room somewhere this week, I'm working on signing, the Quiz, other tidbits and something special for the Cosplay Competition, which I will be presenting again this year.

Boxing Day and a new bedroom arrangement

Well, it's the Second Christmas Day, (or Boxing Day, as the English call it) and of the plans I made for today, only one was executed properly so far, but that particular plan was actually planned for yesterday evening. (however, I did it after midnight, so technically, I did it today)
I am having trouble sleeping, and according to my sister, that was due to the fact that I sleep directly underneath a window.

So I moved things around a bit (the fact that I could do that at 0:30 in the morning without bothering my neighbours has to do with the fact that I have a floor made of wood and pads of felt underneath my furniture) and went to bed.
I slept in until 12:30 or so.

Tonight, I'll find out whether it's a fluke or not. ;)

As for my other plans: my new DVD player indeed lacks an S-video output, so I'll be finding myself cruising down the A28 motorway again tomorrow to give the salesdroid an earful and demanding either a proper player or my money back. In the mean time, I'll pop over to a friend of mine to pinch his region-free DTS-capable player and start on my backlog.

Other stuff I've planned for this week; cleaning the house, start working on the Anime 2007 opening film and sort out some silly things that were left alone for a while.

Checking things out in Almelo

I had an appointment today with one of the guys at Theaterhotel Almelo; our location for Anime 2007. We spent 2 hours and 30 minutes checking every room and hall assigned to be Convention Grounds in the first week-end of June in 2007; things are looking very promising. :)
